How We Teach World Peace Matters

When I was growing up, my mom would tell me to walk in the opposite direction if a fight broke out. (As long as I wasn’t the one fighting 🥊😩). She also encouraged me NOT to take sides and to mind my own business.

Minding my own business was pretty challenging because I was nosy. I wanted to know what was happening between my friends, my neighbors and anybody I overheard talking. My mom’s advice mattered.
My mother’s advice served me well, and I raised my own children to look at both sides of the story, be careful about judging others, and giving benefit of the doubt to their friends and colleagues.
Today we celebrate world peace, and it’s easy to commit to it when things are going well. It’s harder to be peaceful when there is chaos around you, in your personal relationships, on your job, or with your neighbors.
Let’s practice world peace for our children. They imitate everything we do, because we are their role models. For example, when we argue and fight each other, exhibit road rage, practice bigotry, we teach our children many lessons that are hard to unteach. Instead let’s teach our children and grandchildren how to appreciate diversity, and accept people who don’t look like (or act like) us.
