The Pause I Didn’t Know I Needed

There’s something about being on the water that makes you slow down… whether you planned to or not.
Last week, on my birthday cruise, I wasn’t thinking about content, deadlines, or what needed to happen next.
I was just… there.
With my husband.
My kids.
My grandbabies.
Good friends.
Laughing. Watching. Taking it all in.
And somewhere in between those moments, I realized something:
I don’t pause enough.
Not because I don’t want to…
But because life moves fast, and I’ve gotten used to moving with it.
Responding. Managing. Leading. Doing.
But on that cruise, I wasn’t reacting to life…
I was experiencing it.
The Shift
I’ve been talking a lot about this lately—
Not every moment needs a reaction.
But this time, I lived it.
There were moments I could’ve rushed:
- Trying to coordinate everyone
- Making sure everything was “perfect”
- Capturing every second
But instead… I chose presence over pressure.
And what I got in return?
Peace. Joy. Connection.
The kind you can’t recreate later.
What I’m Taking With Me
I’m not coming back trying to hold onto a “vacation feeling.”
I’m coming back with a decision:
👉🏽 To pause more—even in real life, not just on vacations
👉🏽 To choose connection over control
👉🏽 To stop reacting to every little thing and start being present in the big things
Because staying sane… isn’t about escaping life.
It’s about learning how to be in it—fully.
A Gentle Reminder
You don’t need a cruise to pause.
You don’t need a birthday.
Or a perfect moment.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…
is take a breath
and choose not to react.
