When the Holidays Feel Heavy for Parents

December 17, 2025 at 8:27 am Leave a comment

The holidays are often painted as joyful and magical, but for many parents they can bring stress, grief, exhaustion, or emotional overload. Financial pressure, family dynamics, changes in routines, or memories of loss can make this season feel heavier than expected. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or just “off,” you’re not alone—and nothing is wrong with you.

One of the most important things parents can do during the holiday season is give themselves permission to feel what they feel. For many parents, praying to release the heaviness of depression can be a meaningful first step. You don’t have to force cheer or create perfect moments to be a good parent. Simple grounding practices like stepping outside for fresh air, journaling, limiting draining conversations, or asking for help can make a real difference. Modeling emotional honesty and self-care teaches children that it’s okay to slow down and tend to your mental health.

If the holiday blues feel persistent or overwhelming, reaching out for support matters. Asking for—and receiving—help is the next step toward feeling whole again. Sometimes it helps to talk with someone who isn’t your closest friend, but who truly understands the load you’re carrying. If that sounds like what you need right now, you’re welcome to book a one-on-one parent coaching session with me. Book here. You don’t have to carry this season alone. 💗
